FINDING PEACE IN CHAOS
Proverbs 19:11 – Good sense makes a man restrain his anger
These days it is far too easy to get upset and frustrated and I am guilty of this mistake in a big way! Just this morning it seemed like one thing when wrong after another. It started with these ridiculous automatic Windows updates; I was in the middle of writing something important and without warning my computer starts shutting down. Thinking I lost everything I just spent the last 30 minutes writing I felt the steam in my blood rising up, flushing across my face and that was just the start of it all.
We started running late!! I am one of those people who’s pet peeve is being late. I can’t explain why it frustrates me so much but as hard as I try, although I’ve calmed a lot over the years, I can’t seem to find peace in being late and then boom…I forgot to make the LUNCHES! I wanted to blame everyone around me…”It’s my daughter’s fault because she got sick and isn’t helping me get things ready, that’s the reason” and “It’s because my wife got up late and that’s part of it too” flashed across my flesh eaten brain. I wanted to blame everyone but the truth is it wasn’t anyone’s fault…it just was. Thank God I didn’t voice those thoughts.
At that point I just wanted to throw up my hands, reverse the clock to 4 am and start all over again. It was in that place of letting go that I was reminded that I had started my day wrong and left myself vulnerable…I had forgotten to pray and read my Bible.
There is something about starting the day off reading the Bible; it sets the tone for the day and provides us with protection from the enemy who wants to distract us from achieving God’s victory for our lives. The interesting thing is that he’ll attack us where we are the weakest. Today, for me, it was running late; for you it may be something else but he will try to take our peace away…so we must resist.
If we do our best to maintain our peace, even if we aren’t completely successful, God will remind us of how to get back to a place of peace and on the road to His victory and fulfill the destiny He has planned for us…besides it makes for a good story to tell along the way.
