He’s Good To Those Looking For His Goodness
It always amazes me that right when you need it the most God shows you that he’s right there with you walking with you side by side; through our darkest moments and in our deepest fears. He’s almost always subtle; soft and gentle but if you’re looking for Him, He’s obvious.
As many of you already know we’ve been going through some stuff lately; of course the obvious one is the recent passing of my mom and the grief that’s come with it; although I know that I’m supposed to celebrate her passing from this life to the next; truthfully, my grief is a selfish one and all about me and my loss; not her gain of being in Heaven. Even though my head knows all this, my heart still hurts because she’s gone.
But that’s just part of it all; what we haven’t shared with you is the other challenges we come up against lately. For no explainable reason my beautiful wife had (and is being healed from in Jesus Name) sudden spikes in her blood pressure and an elevated heart rate. Moments after getting home from my wife’s doctor’s office last Monday (and the on call doctor we saw had a seriously terrible bedside manner; making us more nervous than hopeful), we received the news that my mom had passed. I immediately knew I wouldn’t be able to attend any funeral or viewing because my family is in Tennessee because my attention had to be on my wife.
Of course this is just the latest in what seems to be a laundry list of calamities we’ve been experiencing. I still believe that I’m being healed from the Psoriasis that once made my hands look like they’d been dipped in a bucket of pure acid. We bought a used but new to us car that is now too small for our family of six to ride in together and have had the fun of recent mechanical problems. We’ve had close encounters of the financial ruin kind that have kept us on the seat of our pants.
The point is I have plenty of reasons to be afraid or complain or even mad over all these things…But every time we feel like we are tipping over the edge of the cliff; God shows up in some way. When my car broke down on the side of the road God provided us a loaner car and when we finally got it to the mechanic to find out what was wrong with the car; the clip to plug that fed into the “brain” of the car was broken and kept coming unplugged causing the engine to stall and I only had to pay $50 for the mechanics time because the fix was minor. *By the way if you ever need an unbelievably good mechanic and you live in the Northeast Houston area go to Integrity Auto…they are the absolute best and they’re Christian to boot.
When our savings had been depleted (we spent it on having a new baby) and my commissions came up short last month; God caused my mortgage company who’d been withholding an overpayment to my escrow account for over two years to finally release the funds (nearly $2,700) just in time for Christmas; this after having explained to our kids that we’d have to put off Christmas presents this year because of our finances.
Then yesterday after just over a week of grieving, we were walking around the outside of the sanctuary at Lakewood Church to exercise and while we were talking about how we just need to keep trusting God; that all the challenges we’d been facing were just attacks of the enemy because we are close to our breakthrough, I looked up and in the tallest window facing the Southwest freeway I saw what we both immediately identified as a representation of the Holy Spirit.
What was also immediate was the peace that came of us both because it was just another sign the God would not leave us but He walks with us even in the darkest moments of our lives. He came to the earth as the perfect sacrifice to wash us clean from our sin and take on all of our infirmities. News quickly spread about the “Dove” in the window and nearly all the employees at Lakewood were going down to see it.
It was determined that the likely cause of the imprint was an owl that was chasing a bat and ran into the window but it makes no difference to me. As far as I’m concerned if it was an owl God etched his silhouette in the glass as if it were by His own hand so that we’d know that He was with us now and forever.
Our Pastor reminds us often that God is good to those who are looking for His goodness and I see the goodness of God in the imprint of a bird God caused to leave a mark on a window so that I could find it. Remember, the Holy Spirit resides within us to guide us if we choose to let go and let God take control of our lives and when we don’t understand; that’s when God leaves us signs of His presence for us to find. I pray that you too are looking for God’s goodness today because I know that if you are; you’re certain to find it.
