I’m a Lover Not A Lawyer!
It’s that Christian, you know the one… he or she is on the lookout for all the “sinners” who dare come across their path. They are the Christians who make it their business to inform you of the “sin” you are committing and are unabashed in their duty to that “calling”.
(Cue dramatic spy music) They are part of a specialized religious unit of highly perfected and trained officers of the super secret sin police. One would think that they are even human but were miraculously created from a strand of DNA from Jesus himself…
Here’s the thing,
If you are one of these special agents of the sin police; aren’t you committing a sin by judging others for their sin? So, who’s policing the police here?
Here’s the reality, as the body of Christ there are far too many of us focused on the sins of the individual and fail to see the person behind the sin as someone that Jesus loved enough to die for.
I don’t know about you, but my Bible says that my righteousness with God has nothing to do with my actions as a person, but of Jesus’ actions on the cross; so, in affect aren’t we diminishing the value of Christ’s sacrifice by reminding people of their sins, while pretending we are sinless?
Paul called out the Galatians for the very same things, actually calling them fools in chapter 3; 2 Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the Holy Spirit by obeying the law of Moses? Of course not! You received the Spirit because you believed the message you heard about Christ.3 How foolish can you be? After starting your Christian lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?
The good news is that because we can’t be made anymore right in God’s eyes than we already are because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we no longer need to focus on the Law of Moses; instead we can focus on the Love of Jesus Christ.
Today, make it your mission to shine the love of Christ into the life of someone and then share your experience with us by leaving a comment or two!
