Our Water Birth Experience
On July 3, 2011 at 5:30 am my wife began the process of labor with our fourth child. A precious baby girl we named Kaela Marie. She was born at 7:37 am at the Reunion Childbirth Center. The experience was far better than we’d imagined it to be. We arrived at the center (after I got to drive fast and run lights…exhilarating, for me anyway) and we calmly went into a beautiful room with a bed and a giant tub.
After the initial check of mommy and baby we (yes, I was in the tub too) climbed into the tub and sat relaxing in the warm water for the next hour with Marianne’s contractions getting closer and closer. Then the birthing began; what was amazing is that although there were the contraction pains; because Marianne had been relaxed in the tub for over an hour; it went quickly, just fifteen minutes. There wasn’t any tearing or cutting; needles or any intervention required at all really other than pulling the baby out of the water. It was as if we were at home in our own tub experiencing the beauty of childbirth and the midwives had just stopped by.
We can’t recommend this method of childbirth more highly. It could NOT have been a better experience and water birth has had the least side effects for Marianne and the baby.
As with anything do your own research and make a determination for yourself about any alternative birthing options because these aren’t for everyone and not everyone will be a good candidate for them.
For every birth we pray for a healthy outcome and a beautiful experience.
And if you’re in the Houston Texas area we highly, highly recommend Janet and Polly at Reunion Birthing Center in Kingwood, TX.
