The Raw Power of Love
I’ve found my heart today and it’s was in a place unexpected. My heart is for people, their happiness, their peace and most importantly their ability to love like Christ loves us. Far too many have lost sight of God’s love for us and the power that it holds.
John 3:16 says “For God so love the world that he GAVE his only son”
Just think of what that has meant to all of us. God loved so He gave the one thing that meant the most to him for you and me.
What did that love become?
It became the single most significant event history has ever recorded. It is talked about in nearly every country and has been written about in nearly every language. The foundation of Christ’s life and His teachings of love have created nations and transformed others.
However, did Jesus take over governments? No, he changed lives one person at a time through his acts of love; a fisherman, a tax collector, a prostitute, an adulterer, a leaper and a woman who dared touch his cloak. It was his compassion for God’s people that was the genesis of a world forever changed in small acts of love.
In that is our power to continue to change the world, one person at a time; one act of love at a time. We don’t need to change the entire world single handed, we only need to do our best to walk the path that Jesus walked by sharing the love of the Father with those who are lost. And holding those who’ve been found accountable; not through condemnation but through acts of love.
We may not ever feel that we can measure up to Jesus but is that a reason not to put our best effort in trying? All Christians are called to be the hands and feet of Christ and it is through love that we can achieve that calling.
It starts with the first church; our family. We act on the love shown us by the Father by acting in love with those that God has placed first, after Him, in our lives. Our spouse; our children deserve our love; our attention and our commitment to be the best Christ like person we can be; giving grace and mercy just as the Father has given to us.
I know the Father’s love because of what He’s done for me. I was a broken man who volunteered to be a Marine with the purpose of sacrificing my life in war as a way to make my life seem valuable. The abuses of my past had haunted me and drove me to rage and suicidal thoughts. Self-destructive behavior was the norm for me growing up because I hated myself so deeply. To hold back the evil of suicide and homicidal thoughts I became a cutter (someone who cuts themselves) to inflict pain and self punishment.
But God’s love looked past all that and He sent me my wife; a woman who could withstand my rage; my self-destruction and love me through my pain until God’s plan for my life could start to take shape. I know my purpose now; it is to take the love that God has given me and give it to you; to use the pain that was once my life; the one transformed by the actions of love of an island girl; God’s love for me. It is in my past pain that I have found my purpose.
If you don’t know God’s love for you; please allow me to be to tell you that you ARE special. God made only one of you and He’s waiting for you to just look up. You’ll find Him there and He’ll be waiting with open arms, with a love that’ll penetrate whatever burdens you have right now. All you have to do is open your heart to Him and let Him in. The past doesn’t matter; your mistakes don’t matter…all that matters is God loves you and so do we.
