Why We Experience Chaos and Misery
I don’t know about you but I’m tired of feeling unhappy with the direction of my life. I’ve been searching for my purpose. On my own I’ve tried to define it, understand it, chase it but ultimately I discovered that I’m not in control of it… any of it and every time I try to be in control of the direction of my life I feel more lost than I was before.
But, I know I have a purpose and so do you… but, the question is: how do we discover it, define it and then live it?
I was looking at Jeremiah 29:11 very carefully and it started to become so clear to me. Check this out: “For I know the plan I have for you…”
God said He knew the plan. What plan? The plan that He has for us and the good news is if He has the plan then we don’t have to create the plan, decide its direction or try to walk it out. Our task is the easiest and the hardest of all tasks… we simply need to listen to the Holy Spirit who was sent to be our helper.
If we can just learn to listen to His direction we’ll be walking out His plan for our lives and when our plan lines up with God’s plan… that’s when nothing can stand in the way. That verse goes on to say that His plan includes a plan to “prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
If God holds the keys to our hope and our future then why are we trying to open doors with human keys to success? Now, I’m not saying we should be sit around doing nothing, just waiting for mana in the form of money to fall from heaven and take care of us. The Bible talks plainly about lazy people.
No, what I’m talking about is following your peace and your passion. God puts desires into our hearts and with it are the secret to His plan. If your gifts line up with your passion the result is an abundant, happy life full of blessings and favor.
I know a young woman who has many talents. She can draw, she writes music, sings and play various instruments and she can even write. As a matter of fact, she can write the most beautiful heartfelt and powerful messages in the most elegant way. Even her posts on Facebook touch people’s lives. Although she loves to write, sing and play music she’s often unhappy. I believe God highlighted her life to me to show me something powerful about my own life.
I believe the reason she’s not fulfilled in her life is the same reason many of us find ourselves in a constant state of chaos and misery. We failed to listen to the director of our lives and fulfill His perfect plan instead of trying to force what we think is the best plan for success in our lives.
This young woman has a beautiful gift to minister. She studies the Bible in depth almost daily and has an in depth perspective on the Word. She also has a pastor’s heart and will go to nearly any end to help a person who’s struggling by trying to encourage them, instilling a little piece of hope into their lives. And, as a matter of fact, I’ll say it right now; if she turned her focus toward ministry and turned away from some of the forced pursuits; she’d find herself much more satisfied and in the end I believe she will.
For me it was holding on to my once thriving insurance business. I stayed in that business nearly seven years longer than I should’ve and it made me completely miserable. I have a burning passion for writing and speaking… telling the stories of mine and others lives in order to lift others up because my life has had more than a small share of challenges to overcome. In the years since I started this blog, I’ve struggled to see its purpose but I believe I’ve become distinctly aware of it recently. If you come on this journey with me we’ll find our purpose together and I believe live a life of destiny.
